Educator, Academic, Mentor
I am the Principal Lecturer in International Development and the author of Contemporary Iran: Politics, Economy, Religion, Bristol: Policy Press.
I pioneered the Democratic Education Network (DEN) in 2016. Democratic Education Network (DEN) is a student/staff - initiative that has built links with diverse ethnic communities in London and various global partners including Georgia, Peru, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.
DEN's impact acknowledged nationally in 2019, when it was a runner-up for the Students' Experience Award at the prestigious Guardian University Awards.
I have been recognised for my excellence in teaching and supporting students. I was named 'Outstanding Teacher' in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2019 at the Staff Appreciation Awards managed by the Student Union and the University of Westminster.
In 2022 I achieved the prestigious National Teaching Fellow.
DEN combines democracy and education; it brings students and academics together and provides different ways of teaching, leading, supporting, and opening new knowledge.
DEN is a platform with links to diverse ethnic communities in London and universities abroad that encourages student and faculty collaboration. DEN's projects include an online magazine, an annual book, an international student conference, YouTube Channel, and international field trips.
DEN has won an award for positively impacting students' personal experiences at the University of Westminster in 2017, and in 2018 was a runner-up for the Students' Experience Award at the prestigious Guardian University Awards.
